Women’s golf balls.a gimmick or is it legit?

I’m a very very beginner golfer and getting ready to take my first lessons soon. I’ve noticed there are golf balls and women’s golf balls…since I am female do I need to purchase women’s golf balls or does it really matter? Thanks!

There is such thing as women’s golf balls and they are not a gimmick and they are legal.

Because woman generally hit the ball at a slower swing speed they need a golf ball with a lower compression rating.

Lady golf balls (along with junior and senior golf balls) are generally around 80 compression.

The faster the swing you have then the higher compression rating you need. Mens balls tend to have a compression of around 90-100.

But of course this doesn’t mean a man can’t use a lady ball, because if he has a slow swing then he could benefit.
